On 22 September, 2014, representatives of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum (CSF) will meet with colleagues from Poland (NGO activists, experts, and decision makers) to discuss current EU-Russia relations. A round table “Problems and Prospects of Civil Society Cooperation with Russia” will be held at the Institute of Public Affairs in Warsaw.
‘Special attention will be paid to the current crisis in Ukraine,‘ says Anna Sevortian, Executive Director at the EU-Russia CSF. ‘Poland is known for its principled position regarding Ukraine. This round of sharing opinions is important for our understanding on how the civil society actors in Russia, in the EU, particularly Poland, and Ukraine can better contribute to the crisis’ resolution.’
The CSF’s aim is to define specific projects and initiatives that can contribute to de-escalation and crisis management, says Barbara von Ow-Freytag, Head of the CSF Advisory Board. She sees “a growing awareness” among EU actors that Russia’s inner development “is a key factor for the Eastern Neighbourhood and the entire post-Soviet space.”  Support for Russian civil society “must be substantially increased and Russian NGOs should be consistently included in Neighbourhood projects”.
Participants of the round table will be Jakub Benedyczak (Stefan Batory Foundation), Ireneusz Bil (Amicus Europae Foundation), Krzysztof Bobiński (Polska – Unia Foundation), Anna Dyner (Polish Institute of International Affairs), Joanna Fomina (Polish Academy of Sciences), Grzegorz Gromadzki (independent expert), Łukasz Jasina (columnist at the “Liberal Culture Magazine”), Artur Kacprzak (Grupa Zagranica), Paweł Lickiewicz (Common Europe Foundation),  Jan Piekło (Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation Foundation)  as well as Jacek Kucharczyk, Agnieszka Łada and Łukasz Wenerski (Institute of Public Affairs).
The EU-Russia CSF will be represented by Anna Sevortian, Executive Director, and Barbara von Ow-Freytag, Head of Advisory Board.
Round table participants are available for interviews after the event (5:30 p.m.).
