PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAMME
The Legal Dialogue Travel Grants 2020 offers financial assistance for the participation of legal professionals from the European Union and Russia in conferences, seminars or other educational activities in the field of human rights and public interest law as well as other relevant topics. The events can be held by organisations worldwide. Due to the current travel restrictions, only participation in online events is supported.
The programme is running from 20 August until 31 December 2020. The funding is granted only for an event within the indicated period, it is not possible to apply for an event that takes place in 2021. This year, we will select the winners always once per month: 20th August, 20th September, 20th October and 20th November 2020 as long as our budget isn’t spent.
Legal Dialogue Travel Grants are open for legal experts from the EU and Russia working with or directly supporting civil society. You can apply for financial support if you want to take part in an online event or if you organise the online event yourself and you would like to invite an external expert. First-time applicants and members and supporters of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum will be given priority in the selection procedure.
Online events focusing on human rights and public interest law are eligible for support. They can be organized by civil society organizations, universities or international organisations worldwide. Have a look at the calendar of the Legal Dialogue Journal for inspiration.
OBLIGATIONS OF THE GRANTEES
Selected grantees are required to submit the article for the Legal Dialogue Journal following the event. The Legal Dialogue Journal is a multi-thematic online platform aiming to explore various topic connected to human rights protection and public interest law developments in the EU and Russia. The grantees can pitch the topics discussed during the supported event or propose different topic they would like to work on.
SCOPE OF GRANT
The grants cover the participation fee for attending an online event up to 500 EUR and expert fees for the invitation of an external expert to an online event the applicant organises him*herself up to 500 EUR as well. If the event is free of charge, the grant is 150 EUR. In all cases, the grant is paid only after the grantee submits an article for the Legal Dialogue Journal.
APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCEDURE
The application should consist of:
– Short description of your activities within civil society and your motivation for taking part in the online event (incl. the amount of the participation fee) (max. 1 page);
– Pitch for the Legal Dialogue Journal.

An international independent jury will select the winners and the amount of funding according to the programme guidelines.
All winners of the competition will sign a contract on financial support with the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum. Conditions for funding are writing an article for the Legal Dialogue Journal after the event as well as providing all necessary accounting documents by the agreed deadline.
