WHY IS THIS GROUP NECESSARY?

Group coordinator, Perm Youth Memorial (Russia)

In my opinion historical education is essential, because an overwhelming part of the socio-political processes in Russia are linked to our recent past, its various analyses, interpretations, myths and stereotypes. By taking part in the History Group, we encourage the establishment of another pan-European platform and develop dialogue and professional networks.

Secretariat of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum (Berlin)

It is challenging to deal with uncomfortable aspects of history among different communities. It can be observed in the current political crisis in EU-Russia relations; regarding the EU-Russia CSF, it is still difficult to form a shared platform, as civil societies from the two counterparts are dealing with the past differently. Thus, the theme of conflicting memories in history, as a new aspect of the Forum’s work, seems an ideal and enriching area of work for the CSF.
