The 8th General Assembly of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum was held on 15-18 May 2018 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Most of the events took place at the Moskva Park Hotel.
The General Assembly’s agenda addressed topical issues for the social, economic and political environment in the EU and Russia in a variety of formats, such as panel discussions, keynote speeches, plenary sessions, working group and Forum members’ sessions.
Topics addressed in Sofia included the state of civil society in Russia and Europe, energy and corruption in the EU and Russia, scenarios for the development of the civil society in Russia. The host country of the 8th General Assembly was featured in several of the events that gathered prominent Bulgarian civil society activists and journalists.
The General Assembly in Sofia was the first one after the Forum registered its own legal entity in Germany on 11 April 2017. In this context, the programme included reporting and comprehensive presentations about the new legal entity.

Additionally, the GA gained most visibility through the articles published by its long-time partner Deutsche Welle and several civil society organisations such as the Netherlands Helsinki Committee and the Center for the Study of Democracyin Bulgaria.
