The Open Technology Fund (OTF) is a non-profit organization committed to advancing global Internet freedom. OTF supports projects focused on counteracting repressive censorship and surveillance, enabling citizens worldwide to exercise their fundamental human rights online.

Types of assistance offered by the organisation:

Digital security

Target group: human rights defenders, journalists, researchers

Operates worldwide

There are many open source software projects that aim to help people around the world – activists, journalists, and everyday citizens – communicate in privacy and security. Unfortunately, few of these software development teams have the capacity or expertise in-house to make tools that are truly usable. OTF’s Usability Lab, though its service providers, will provide services as an in-kind resource to OTF-funded projects and other Internet freedom technologies.

Career support

Target group: lawyers

Operates worldwide

OTF projects are experts in technology, not necessarily in law. Through partnerships with experienced attorneys, the Legal Lab seeks to address the varied, and often novel and complex legal issues that OTF’s projects face as they work to promote Internet freedom globally.
