The Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism uniquely honor the work of freelance journalists – and local reporters in developing countries or nations in transition – who often otherwise receive little recognition.

The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund exists to keep the world aware of the debt we owe to brave journalists who bring us news from dangerous places.
It is the three categories of journalists that KSMF honors each year with its awards: one to a freelance journalist covering international news, one to a reporter living and working in the developing world or a country in transition and – newly introduced in 2017 – one to recognize the unsung work of news fixers.
