Justice and Peace Netherlands is a non-profit organisation based in The Hague that is dedicated to defending and promoting respect for human rights and social justice, worldwide and in the Netherlands.
Types of assistance offered by the organisation:
Justice and Peace believes that the most effective way to promote universal human rights globally is through the support and protection of local and grassroots human rights defenders. Through Shelter City, and together with 14 Dutch and international cities, human rights defenders at risk are offered with a three-month temporary stay in one of the Shelter Cities, so that they can continue their work safely and effectively in the long term. Generally, the Shelter City programme is open for applications twice a year, in May and November.
The Shelter City programme provides human rights defenders with a chance to rest and re-energise but it is also an important time for participants to reflect and re-strategise. During their stay, Justice and Peace offers Shelter City participants holistic security training sessions aimed at building resilience so that defenders can return to their respective contexts and continue their work safely and effectively.
Please note that Security training is a part of Shelter City initiative and provided for Shetler City participants.
As part of the Shelter City initiative, Justice and Peace has established a Fellowship Programme for Human Rights Defenders in The Hague. With this programme, Justice and Peace aims to add the support of HRD’s work in (applied) human rights law research. HRDs that meet the Shelter City criteria and who have a legal background and a track record on conducting research activities can apply for this programme once a year through the second annual call for applications in June.
Please note that Fellowship Programme is a part of Shelter City initiative and provided for Shetler City participants.
