The Human Rights Program was founded in 1984 as a center for human rights scholarship. It later expanded to include an International Human Rights Clinic. Today, the faculty and staff include scholars and practitioners with decades of experience in the field.

Through its Visiting Fellows Program, the Human Rights Program has sought to give individuals with a demonstrated commitment to human rights an opportunity to engage with the human rights community at Harvard Law School.
