On 6 July 2017, the presentation of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum took place in the premises of the Platform of the Third Sector (PTS) in Madrid, Spain. Since 2012, PTS has been representing the interests of the major NGO associations in Spain, working on social problems and social integration.
The meeting was attended by experts of the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN), the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), and the Spanish Volunteer Platform (PVE).
During the meeting, the Forum presented its main working formats and projects. The results of a comparative study on the state of civil society in the EU and in Russia in 2016, also containing data on Spain, were discussed with great enthusiasm. The project "Different Wars: National School Textbooks on the Second World War" aroused a special interest as well. Then, participants discussed a potential for cooperation and voiced their first ideas and proposals. Among other things, participants talked about joint projects and working groups for the protection of the rights of people with disabilities, on the fight for gender equality, knowledge sharing on the volunteer work development as well as financing strategies for socially oriented NGOs.
The meeting’s participants emphasised their interest in developing stronger ties with colleagues from other EU countries and Russia and exchanging experience with them. They expressed readiness to contribute to the development of the EU-Russia Civil Forum’s network in Spain. The Forum was represented by Polina Baigarova, CSF Internal Communications Manager.
