On 8 July 2022, the initiative “The Last Address” of the German Memorial will inaugurate the fourth commemorative plaque in Germany. The plaque commemorates Fritz Storch, who was an accountant in Berlin. He was arrested because of derogatory comment about the Socialist Unity Party and therefore was sent to Moscow and shot there. The plaque will be installed at Fritz Storch’s last address where he lived until his arrest.

The activities of the initiative “The Last Address” aim at preserving the memory of the victims of Soviet political repression. The project was launched in 2013 by employees of the Russian Memorial Network, historians and journalists in Moscow. Inspired by the “Stolpersteine” (stumbling stones), which commemorate the victims of National Socialism, the initiative “The Last Address” is engaged in the production and installation of memorial plaques on the former homes of people who lost their lives through no fault of their own between 1918 and 1991 as part of political persecution by Soviet authorities.
