Valentina Cherevatenko from Novocherkassk, Chairwoman of the Human Rights Organisation "Women of Don", has become the first person to face criminal prosecution under the country's controversial "foreign agents" law.
Cherevatenko might be charged under Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code, which prescribes punishment of a fine of up to 300 thousand roubles (about 4,600 euros), correctional labour, or a two-year imprisonment.
"Women of Don" was recognised as a "foreign agent" by the Russian Ministry of Justice in 2014.
